The Castle
A visit to Cagliari isn’t complete without a stop off to visit the Castle and the Bastion of Saint Remy. This impressive structure, built over more than four centuries, is the city’s historical heart, not only for its cultural worth but also for the views that can be enjoyed while walking among the walls and steps that cross it. In this historical neighbourhood you can also admire the towers of the Elephant and Saint Pancras in addition to the Vice Regio building, taking a real trip down memory lane but always staring at the sea.
The Cathedral of Santa Maria
The second attraction is undoubtedly the Cathedral of Santa Maria. The building, which dates back to the 13th century, is a mix of styles from Pisan to Baroque, full of frescoes and sculptures. Don’t miss a visit to the crypt where the remains of 179 martyrs, buried under the cathedral, are still preserved.
Umberto I Terrace
Close to the Castello district, it is a required stop for the Cagliarians who want to enjoy a breath-taking panorama sipping, perhaps, an aperitif or enjoying Sardinian street food. The terrace is the heart of Sardinian nightlife at weekends and on hot summer evenings.
San Benedetto Market
One of the places of the local, culinary tradition has to be the market of San Benedetto. If you want to taste typical Sardinian food, like fregola (type of pasta), culurgiones (stuffed pastry pockets) and carasau bread, it’s impossible not to visit this local, food market – the largest one on the island.

Identity Card
An identity card valid for leaving the country allows entry into European Union countries. However, please note that there have been reports of difficulties in some countries with the recognition of renewed and stamped paper identity cards, as well as the refusal of electronic ID cards renewed with a certificate issued by the municipality.
Passport
An ordinary passport is valid for all countries whose governments are recognized by the Italian one, except for any legal restrictions, and can be obtained by all citizens of the Republic. A passport is issued (and renewed) by the police and abroad, by diplomatic and consular representatives. It is valid for 10 years, but in some cases provided for by current legislation, this validity may be shortened.
